1000 Voices, 1000 Stories Episode 007: Michele Landsberg

Journalist. Author. Social justice activist. Sought after speaker. Feminist.

Born in Toronto in 1939, Michele became one of Canada’s most read columnists having worked at the Globe and Mail, Chatelaine Magazine and the Toronto Star. Michele is the author of several books including “This is New York, Honey!”, 1989, a best-selling memoir of her time living in NY as the wife of a UN Ambassador.

In 2011, she published Writing the Revolution, a collection of her articles. Throughout her career, Michele pushed for change and incited controversy with her articles that highlighted progressive issues: women’s and children’s rights; issues of equal pay; abortion; sexual harassment in the workplace; and racial discrimination. Michele was one of the first journalists to discuss these issues in the public sphere.

Host Debra Davis talks to Michele about her story, her career and those issues which she brought to the Canadian consciousness. This episode is produced by The Women’s History Project with thanks to the Canadian Women’s Foundation.
